HEY YOU FUCKSTICKS, WE REALLY NEED A FUCKING REISEN ROUTE.

Oh, what? You like Reisen, too? WELL WHY DON'T YOU FUCKING VOTE FOR HER YOU GOD DAMN BONOBOS OF AN AUDIENCE?

YEAH, I'M TALKING TO YOU. You have one job in this here story. I expect you to fucking do it. Now, go and vote for the right choice, faggots. No, don't give me that smug fucking look. Don't you fucking dare. Yeah, you suck your bottom lip right back in and get back to reading, YOU DUMB INGRATES.

Reisen ducks underneath the table, dodging your prodding glances. She keeps herself still but makes no attempt to hide her quickly reddening cheeks. The rabbit's ears wilt considerably, drooping low enough to brush against her disheveled, purple hair. Her usual shirt-and-tie attire is missing, replaced by a short cut kimono. A fake satin flower rests over the side of her ears – her human ears. “Is...” she whispers, “is it all true? They weren't lying to me?”

“Now, why would they lie about that?” You murmur gently, coaxing Reisen out from underneath the furniture. The place is messy; a full two years of absence would do that, though. A thin line of dust coated everything but the mirrors, which, for obvious reasons, remain impeccable. You put your mind away from the thought of cleansing the place – it would be absolutely impossible. “Would I be here if they lied to you?”

Reisen lowers her head, resting against the frame of the table. She opens her mouth, but the words that come out are inaudible. The girl realizes this and repeats herself, just a little more loudly. “Yes,” she says. “Yes, you would. Unfortunately, that is precisely the person you are.”

“I do not know how to respond to that.”

Your reply is left unanswered. Reisen makes no attempt to clear herself from beneath the table. You inch your hand toward her, but ultimately retract it. She would merely shy away if you made such brash a move.

“But, if you believe them now, then why are you still running away?” you ask.

“It's for a completely different reason, now!” Reisen Udongein Inaba lifts herself up, or at least attempts to – before striking her head against the underbelly of the table. And so, she decides to squirm, weep, and spit out varying degrees of “fuck” over the newly crested bump on her head. “And, god this hurts, don't you laugh at that!”

You drop your growing smile and cover your mouth with your hand. “I–pmffffht–do not fi-hahaah-nd that funny in the slightest. At all.”

That'll convince Reisen.

A bullet whirls past you, inches away from your face. It didn't. Reisen, slight tears in her eyes, has a look on her face that you don't quite understand. There's been a whole lot of that lately: things you don't quite understand. But the good news is that she has exited the tablegrounds.

The rabbit's entire face is now glowing pink. “I understand that I have no rational reason to be angry, but to that I say, fuck being rational.”

You wait patiently until Reisen traces the rest of your figure with her bullets. Thankfully, the bullets are ephemeral. Every bullet disappears in a fit of purple smoke – a wisp of what once could have splattered your brains out. After she is finished, you speak. “Then, what is your reason for running?”

Reisen breathes. It is a full-breath. “It's-because-I-realized-I-love-you-and-as-you-know-I-am-very-bad-with-dealing-with-my-emotions-and-how-do-I-tell-you-that-in-a-way-that-someone-as-st
upid-as-you-might-understand-I-don't-know-okay?”

You, after careful consideration, approach Reisen by one half-step. “I'm sorry,” you say, “but could you repeat that? That was a little too fast for me.”

“I hate you– wait, no! What I mean to say is that I don't hate you at all but as of right now I'm voicing my current displeasure at your own stupidity at this moment in time! In fact, my general disposition is mostly the opposite, exceptions being when you annoy me to no end! Just–just, give me a moment.” Reisen inhales and exhales, pacing back and forth in a perfectly straight line. She turns. “The point is, despite my terrible use of the English language, I love you. I figured it out kinda on the way here. I kept chasing you and chasing you, wanting you to come back, hanging onto the word of that dumb bunny who has only lied to me since the day I met her. Pretty stupid of me. When you found me, all I could do was run. But, uh, what I'm trying to say that is I love you and that brings us to the next question, which is, um... do you love me?”

What on earth would you even write if the consensus was no? Or even a resounding no? I'm imagining Reisen then trying to woo you with a boombox, standing outside your place in the middle of the night. Or maybe she busts out the tranq... finger, and you wake up with a sore ass.

Anywho, good luck with this story~ It'd hardly be fair of me to vote, so I won't.

You focus your attention to the nearest potted plant. The fern is still alive, much to your chagrin. And not only is it alive, but it is bustling. It has outgrown the pot and has decided to expand elsewhere – towards the couch. You keep your eyes trained on that plant, wary of Reisen's frantic glances at you.

The rabbit finally breaks the silence with an impatient yell. “Whaaaat! Aren't you going to respond!? Isn't this where you give me a straight answer and we move on with our lives!?”

You throw her a side-glance and shake your head uneasily. Unfortunately, you could not give her such a response. You wish it could be that easy.

Reisen sinks to her knees, biting her lower lip. Her ears flop down all the way, strewn below her chin. Her vision wavers; tears pool at the edge of her eyes. “In moments like these,” she mumbles, “this is when I hate you.”

“I'm sorry,” you murmur.

“It's... it's fine. I know you're sorry.” She thumbs the corner of her eyes. Her tears are promptly wiped off onto her sleeve. “I... I honestly expected you to say yes. I know that sounds a little conceited, but hear me out. These two years, I have been waiting––no, yearning for you. Call me selfish, but I wish you had never left. I wanted you to stay here. With me. With us. For seven hundred and thirty days, give or take one, I've been thinking. Thinking about, 'What if I'd told him to stay?' But you came back again, finally done with your wild duck hunt. And then you chased after me. Maybe I took it the wrong way, but I thought you did it because you liked me or something. Now I realize it's because that's who you are. That's why I love you. But that's also the reason why I hate you right now.”

“Reisen–”

“Because...” The rabbit warbles, tears now fully spilling down her cheeks. She brings both her hands to her eyes, rubbing them frantically. Reisen can't control her sobs anymore, bawling into the sleeves of her kimono. “B-Because you're-too-hic-kind. Why? Why did you come after me? It's-just-not-fair.”

Then you–

You see, this is why you manipulate the voters. Starting a story in the middle just doesn't work that well; we aren't attached to her in the least as an individual. Maybe people like Reisen, but we don't know what this Reisen is like.

We don't even know what we are like or if we have anything in common save for finding her cute. That's not the best way to make a lasting relationship; that's how you have a fling that becomes a failed marriage.

instead, maybe you could have done an Eientei story that makes her seem appealing enough to be worth it. Make her pitiable, but not broken by that situation. Vulnerable, but not weak. Strong, yet not able to stand up by herself. Make us love her, and we'll love her. Until then, it just seems silly to do this.

If you want to write a Reisen route in a CYOA format, you need to make it the best choice instead of voting for us. Have a bitchy rabbit that keeps spiking your everything with laxative, a condescending princess that looks down on men, a cold Eirin that doesn't like you but won't just come out with it, and a Reisen that is frazzled and deals with all that on a regular.

Or, heck, have us play as Tewi, and have her slowly realize she likes the younger rabbit with a troubled past.

Or maybe some sort of distant past thing, where we're a random lunar rabbit and we're fighting a war alongside Reisen, eventually proving that love can bloom on the battlefield.

Or maybe have us be Sagume in LoLK and have the brave bunny hero be appealing, and make her word mechanic a thing. You could even have the votes only be what we say, not what we do, just to mess with us.

But this? Sure, the writing's pretty, but I don't believe in love on first sight. I believe in love with those it seems completely reasonable to love, as they've proven themselves to have earned that love.

“It's for a completely different reason, now!” Reisen Udongein Inaba lifts herself up, or at least attempts to – before striking her head against the underbelly of the table. And so, she decides to squirm, weep, and spit out varying degrees of “fuck” over the newly crested bump on her head. “And – god this hurts, don't you laugh at that!”

The air is heavy. A crushing weight tramples over your shoulders. You can't move at all. Your vision blurs; tears fill your eyes. An ear-splitting ringing echoes through your head. The house crumbles into dust – into nothingness. Then, just as it came, it disappears––and more than that. Clouds obscure your thoughts, but it is as if nothing happened. More specifically, it is as if something happened, but something else made it unhappen.

A purple-haired, bunny-eared girl stares at you. You squint. “Did something just–”

“Never mind that,” she retorts, cutting you off. She kneads her temple with her knuckles. How rough. “I'm getting a serious headache right here.”

“Odd,” you say under your breath. “So very odd.”

The rabbit stops to turn to you. “I can't shake off this feeling that something like this has happened before.”

“Has it?” You do not seem to recall.

______________

Reisen lowers her head, resting against the frame of the table. She opens her mouth, but the words that come out are inaudible. The girl realizes this and repeats herself, just a little more loudly. “Yes,” she says. “Yes, you would. Unfortunately, that is precisely the person you are.”

The bunny-eared girl pauses. She rubs her cheek numbly. There is a look in her eyes, and, from your assessment, it is one of confusion. “Huh.”

You cock your head at her, eyeing her purple hair. “What's the matter, Miss?”

“No, no,” she says, waving her hand up in the air. “It's nothing. I just felt...”

SHE IS UNMISTAKABLY PRETTY. SO PRETTY THAT YOU COULD SAY YES TO HER IF SHE CONFESSED TO YOU. “Is...” she whispers, “is it all true? They weren't lying to me?”

She blinks, absentmindedly cupping her face with her hands. The rabbit sits down on the chair, crossing her legs. Uncomfortably, she tugs at her blazer to give the collar a quick pull-down. “There it is again. What did I just say right there?”

“You said, 'There it is again,'” you repeat calmly.

“No, not that,” she laughs, before adopting a more sober face. “What did I say before that?”

“Oh, that's easy.” Right before that, she said... well, she said. She said, something – you know that. But what was that something? “You said... hmm. I cannot recall. What were we even talking about before, Miss– wait a second.”

“I do not know how to respond to that.”

EXCEPT YOU DO.

“Now, why would they lie about that?” You murmur gently, coaxing Reisen out from underneath the furniture. SHE IS UNMISTAKABLY CUTE. SO CUTE THAT IT MAY BE QUITE POSSIBLE THE REASON WHY YOU CHASED HER IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS BECAUSE YOU LOVED HER. The place is messy; a full two years of absence would do that, though. A thin line of dust coats everything but the mirrors, which, for obvious reasons, remain impeccable. You put your mind away from the thought of cleansing the place – it would be absolutely impossible. “Would I be here if they lied to you?”

You drop your growing smile and cover your mouth with your hand. “I–pmffffht–do not fi–hahaah–nd that funny in the slightest. At all.” SO CUTE.

Reisen furrows her brow. “Why would that be funny?”

You blink. “I don't. That's...”

What?

“Whoa,” you gasp. The rabbit before you said something incredible, didn't she? “Are you serious?”

“Um.” The bunny-eared girl scratches her head, ruffling her hair a little bit. Her ears twitch. She crawls out from underneath the table. The table, huh? “Why did I say that?”

With a laugh, you shrug at the girl. “How am I supposed to answer that? You tell me.”

She blushes a little, sticking out her lower lip. “I take it back.”

Your reply is left unanswered. Reisen makes no attempt to clear herself from beneath the table. You inch your hand toward her, but ultimately retract it. BECAUSE SHE'S TOO BEAUTIFUL.. She would merely shy away if you made such brash a move.

“But, if you believe them now, then why are you still running away?” you ask.

“Has it?” You do not seem to recall. Wait. “Actually, you might be onto something. I think that...”

“Don't you think that this is a little weird?” you ask. “I know that something's not right here. Not right at all.”

She sits down on the top of the table. “I'm getting a headache.”

“Another one?”

The rabbit turns. “What do you mean, 'Another one?'”

“Hey,” you call out. Your voice echoes throughout the darkness. There is black – and only black. You put your hand right in front of your face. If you squint, you can barely make out the outline of your fingers as you wriggle them. Your mind and body are groggy – the air is like that again. But you can move. You can finally move. Moving with your hands forward, you gingerly take a few steps forward. Your hands press onto something soft and most definitely girly.

“That's sexual harassment, you know,” a voice in the darkness giggles. Something nudges your arm away. Then, an invisible hand slaps your shoulder lightly. “Save that for when we get outta here.”

“So another person is here. Good.” You sigh out of relief. “I'm not alone. And, uh, sorry. I can't exactly see anything that's not an inch away from my face.”

“Oh.” The voice pauses, mulling over the thought. “Well, I guess you're only human after all.”

“Are you trying to get out of here too?” You turn and get a feel for something solid. It's a wall. You're getting nowhere with this. “Because I'm having a bit of trouble doing just that.”

“Yeah. Though, I can't exactly see too well either.”

“You don't seem too alarmed,” you chuckle.

“I could say the same to you!” The voice responds lightheartedly.

You give a shrug, but you doubt that the person can see. “Chaos is my natural element.”

“Hey, same here.” You hear the person shuffle around. “I'm gonna have to take it slow and– oomph.”

“Oomph?”

“I...” the voice falters, “I may have hit a table.”

“Pffft–ahahaha! Good one!” You laugh, and, for a second, the entire area lights up. You saw... purple. Maybe two bunny ears. And suddenly, you feel like you remember something. “Did... did you feel that?”

“Huh. I did. But...” she muses, “I'm not sure what I felt.”

Your thoughts are hazy, but there is definitely something that you're missing. Something important. And then it clicks... kinda. “You were wearing a kimono.”

“What? No, I'm wearing a blazer– wait. I was wearing a kimono, wasn't I?” She gasps. “I remember. I remember, I remember! I was running away and you were chasing after me and I was wearing a kimono and talking about whether-or-not-you-loved-me-oh-god-that's-embarrassing.”

Breathe, woman.” The darkness fades, if only a little. You can make out her figure now. She is indeed wearing her blazer. The girl in front of you is... feminine, to say the least. You shake your head to clear your mind – you are, no doubt, blushing.

“No time for that!” She grabs the collar of your shirt and pulls you in, jerking you back and forth in excitement. “I have our solution. Do you know why we're here? Why we never got anywhere?”

You dead-eye her. “Frankly, I don't have the slightest idea.”

“Okay, it's fine if you have the analytical skills of a monkey, because I got it all figured out!” She giggles with glee. “We have to repeat the 'scene' – and that's it! We can leave!”

“I've never been one to lie,” you say, frowning.

“Just pretend with me here.” The rabbit sticks her hands on her hips, leaning forward just slightly. “You have the easy part. I'm the one embarrassed here.”

“If you say so.” You face her directly, straightening out your shoulders. You clear your throat.
_______________

You, after careful consideration, approach Reisen by one half-step. “I'm sorry,” you say, “but could you repeat that? That was a little too fast for me.”

“I hate you– wait, no. What I mean to say is that I don't hate you at all but as of right now I'm voicing my current displeasure at your own stupidity at this moment in time. Your cheeks flare. The rabbit's looking at you from the side, clutching at your shirt ever so gently. She pulls you in a little closer and waits expectantly for your answer. You didn't expect her to be blushing so hard, but she is. And here you are.

You clear your throat again. “Uh, yeah, I guess.”

She shakes her head and loosens her grip on you. “No, no, no – put some emotion into it! Don't be so damn stiff! Pretend that you're really falling in love with me!” She slaps her cheeks a little. The blush on her face glows crimson. “Like––so.”

You groan. Right now, you wouldn't mind if the darkness came back. This is all lost on you. “I don't get it.”

“Heck if I do, but come on, we need to get out of here!” The girl frowns, smoothing out her long, purple hair. “Just act the part.”

“Have I told you that I am a bad actor?” you grumble.

“It's been obvious since the start,” the rabbit points out. She gives you a crooked smile – it's almost reassuring. Her eyes level with yours. “Just deal with it until we get out of here, okay?”

“...Fine.” You close your eyes and slowly inhale through your nose. “Let's get it done.”

“I hate you– hmm, wait. That's not really what I meant. What I mean to say is that I don't hate you at all. But you know... you do have times when you're just a colossal idiot. That being said,” she laughs, “I love you. I figured it out kinda on the way here. I kept chasing you and chasing you, wanting you to come back, hanging onto the word of that little bi–that bunny–who has only lied to me since the day I met her. When you found me, all I could do was run. But, uh, what I'm trying to say that is I love you and that brings us to the next question, which is...” She gives you an expectant smile. “Do you love me?”

You feel it. You feel the emotions of a thousand you's that said 'no.' You feel the emotions of the single you that wanted to say 'yes' but couldn't. But what does it matter? Even if you're just pretending, even if this is just a lie, you'll say it. You'll finally say it.

“Yes. I do.”

A flash of light blinds you. You put a hand up to your eyes to shield yourself. You hear many sounds, most of which you cannot distinguish. They clutter into a rather abrasive melody of screeching low notes and trilling high notes. Your hands move from shielding your eyes to covering your ears. But amidst the cacophony you hear something very particular. It's the sound of a lock clicking open.

The light disappears and you can see again.

“Are we...” you whisper. “Are we free?”

You hear a thud. The rabbit scrambles out from underneath the table, frowning. “I don't know yet, but I would absolutely love to stop banging my head on the table. My precious brain cells are dying.”

You stifle a smile. “At least it's funny every time.”

“Oh, you shut up,” she scoffs. The rabbit heads straight to the door. Was the door always there? She pushes it open. Then, green. A whole lot of green. You see forests and thickets and bamboo and holy crap, you're free.

“Did we do it?” you ask tentatively.

The rabbit edges out gently, sticking one foot outside. You watch in silence as she glances left and right. You join her. It's the Bamboo Forest of the Lost. And you're lost, but that's better than being, well, lost.

“Yeah. We did it,” she breathes. The girl looks over to you for a second then rushes over and hugs you joyfully, swaying in glee. “Yay! We did it! We're out of that hell-hole!”

“That's nice,” you mumble, “but could you get off of me, please?”

“Oh!” She releases you, hopping away. “Sorry, sorry. I got a little excited.”

“Yeah. That's how you've always been.” The words immediately come out of your mouth. You barely register what you just said. Huh. “...Not that I would know.”

“No, you're right.” She smiles just enough for you to turn your head away in embarrassment. “It's because, you and I, we feel so familiar – like we've known each other for two years, but not. It's a little weird, to be honest, but what can ya do?”

You shrug. “I don't know.”

“So.” The girl pauses. “What are you going to do now?”

“I'm going to head off now. I still have some business in Gensokyo to take care of.” You take a glimpse at the girl before stepping away from her. “Take care, then.”

“Ah, wait!” She grabs your shirt again. It's oddly nostalgic. The rabbit takes a moment to realize what she did. “Oh.”

“Um, yes?” you say gruffly. “Did you need me?”

“By any chance, do you want to rest and maybe talk for a while? If you don't mind, that is,” she hastily adds.

You almost say no. Funny how that word feels so natural to you now. “What, did you fall in love with me or something?” you laugh.

“Ha-ha, very funny,” the bunny snorts, throwing you a bitter smirk. “I just thought that it'd be a shame if we never got to know each other. It's not too late to start, you know.”

“I suppose. Better late than never, then.” You extend your hand out to her. “Hello. I'm Fenn. Nice to, uh, meet you.”

“I'm Reisen, Reisen Udongein Inaba,” she replies, taking your hand. Reisen shakes it firmly before letting go. “Nice to meet you too, haha. Or whatever we just did. But more importantly! What's your story? How'd you get here? We couldn't have met by coincidence, right?”

And, for the first time, you smile warmly at the girl. “Well, you see, it all began when I woke up in Gensokyo and...”

[x] I've never wanted a story. My one true desire is a happy normal Reisen.

I am verily glad that my [x] Yes did not result in revealing a psycho Reisen or that it's a nightmare or w/e.

Thanks for the ride, Frustrated Writer

And for what reason do you wish to do so? To uncover the truth of the matter? The reason why they are trapped?

At what costs? Do you wish to see these characters in pain all for your delight and amusement?

When the 100th loop comes and Reisen still asks if she loves the MC, do you have the heart to have him say no?

By the way, the original idea was here in the idea exchange thread. >>/gensokyo/14229

I decided to go for it because I enjoyed the idea. It was silly and fun to write. I did have to tweak the idea a little bit though. Instead of having anon play along with my joke, I decided, "Why not make them WANT to vote no?"

So here we are.

Honestly, I thought it was a fantastic idea. Although, now I'm wondering what the reverse would be like; instead of making them want to say no and punishing them for it, make them want to say yes and act like a petulant child every time they vote yes. For instance, making them want to kill someone, and when they finally do... Reset it! It actually reminds me of a plot I hamfistedly did over on the next page, but not so heavy on the repetition.

It's quite fun to punish someone's curiosity, after all. Sadly, time limits came up, as I needed to end the story for the holiday in question. They were actually narrowly avoiding every single pitfall up until I had to fudge it and make them marry it because they liked it so much, so to speak.

The only disappointment I have in all of this is that after seeing
>and her.png
and
>name.png
as the image file names, I was hoping there would be a cut-off before the protagonist revealed his name, which would lead into one additional post with an image titled:
>IS JOHN CENA.png
And then either he or Reisen would powerbomb the other through a table or something.

Kurumi? Too mainstream! We need some Kikuri, Sigma, bakebake, and maybe Rengeteki!

Heck, throw in the batty mirror, ghostly blob and shrine tank route choices for giggles.

Or go all-out with a Satsuki Rin never ending story of our progress with her being unwritten/edited every update in an update after the update! But you accept their votes they made before the edits, leading to fun! Such as asking a girl that doesn't know you to marry her.
