The human village was quiet, for a change. It wasn’t empty, though. It was just quiet. The sun peaked over the horizon, and the cold, evening fall air would soon give way. Soothing winds caressed the land, the nostalgic amber glow of the sun dawning…

Reimu stood drowsily in front of the village job board, hair slightly frazzled and expression tired.

“See!? Crazy stuff’s been happenin’, ze!” Propping her arms by her sides, Marisa excitedly addressed the job board. “Buncha youkai’ve been going totally crazy!”

...Reimu yawned. “...So?”

Marisa’s eyes widened. “So? So!? We gotta kick some serious youkai ass, ze! It’s what we do!”

...At that, Reimu nodded slowly. “Not this early in the morning, we aren’t.”

Rolling her eyes, Marisa cast her gaze upon the job board again. “Whateve~r, Reimu. Guess you don’t want any of the reward money…”

Reimu sighed. “...I guess now’s a good time to wake up as any.”

“Hehehe~!”

Stepping up to the job board, Reimu reached her arm out, and plucked a job posting off of it.

Marisa leaned over her shoulder. “Whatcha pick?”

Reimu read it...

‘The Whirlwind Dishwasher! Mononobe No Futo rampaging through Buddhist district with plates to spare!

“Our temple is being troubled.” said Byakuren Hijiri on the scene. “Due to recent events, I’d appreciate it if the village’s best youkai hunters were to subdue her. But, please, don’t inflict grievous harm.”

A fifty thousand yen reward has been offered.

Signed, ___Byakuren HIjiri__Toyosatomimi no Miko___... ’ The list of names went on for awhile, but Reimu didn’t bother to read the rest.

Furrowing her brows, Reimu turned to her friend. “You’d think the temple would be able to handle her themselves. Honestly, she’s not tough. At all.”

Marisa was skeptical, too. “There’s been a lotta weird job postin’s like that, lately. You think it’s some political bull, or did everyone just develop a chronic case ‘a stupid?”

...At that, Reimu tilted her head. “It’s hard to say.”

“You mean you haven’t noticed it, yet?”

Toyosatomimi no Miko herself walked up behind the two.

Turning to her, Reimu gave her sass. “I’m glad you’re here to give us riddles instead of actually doing anything about this.”

Miko closed her eyes. “It seems neither of you have noticed anything.”

“We just got here.” Marisa stresses. “We ain’t mood readers like you, ze.”

“You’re both still tired...” Miko observes. “...and wish to go back to bed.”

“Wo~w.” Marisa continues patronizing the desire detector. “Sharp seein’ there, fluffy hair. Do we need ta breathe, too? How about-”

Marisa’s stomach growls.

“You desire food.” Miko grins.

“Shut it.”

Holding up the job posting, Reimu speaks. “What’s this about your girl hitting people with dishes?”

“Ah…” Miko stared at the job. “I had posted that moments prior to your arrival. When I noticed the witch’s intentions, I had decided to observe.”

Reimu nodded. “So you confronted us because we took the job.”

“...Yes.” Miko confirmed.

Marisa stepped away a little. “Alright! Time to go kick…” She paused. “Her name was Monononoble, or something, right?”

“I ask you to hold.” Miko spoke up. “You two are neglecting a very important development.”

...Reimu sighed. “Yes, yes. We don’t kill youkai like her, anyway. She’ll be fine.”

“It’s not that.” Stepping between the two girls, Miko drew her sword. “I wish for you two to strike me.”

Marisa leapt back. “Wha~h!? I thought you were on our side!”

Saying nothing, Miko threateningly shifted about, her sword ready.

Marisa appeared standoffish, before jerking her head towards Reimu. “Reimu! Cover me!”

Drawing her broom, Marisa ran and leapt onto it, taking to the air.

Reimu smiled, reaching for her ofuda…

“Wh-what?” She found none. “In that case… Cautionary Barrier!” She held out her hand.

Nothing happened.

“Here!” Marisa pointed her Mini-Hakkero down from above, only for nothing to come out.

Miko slowly sheathed her sword. “I believe you see, now.”

Reimu furrowed her brows. “Youkai Buster!”

Flinging her arm forward, nothing happened.

...She tried to summon her orbs, and nothing happened.

“Love Sign…!” Marisa grinned, only for the grin to deflate when the Mini-Hakkero did nothing. “Master Spark?”

Zip. Nada.

...Slowly, Marisa floated down. “Holy shit, ze…”

Miko smiled. “I believe you both see, n-”

Abruptly flinging herself towards Miko, Marisa lifted an earmuff off. “What the hell didja do to us!?”

“-Owowow!?” Miko’s eyes widened, hastily moving to push Marisa away.

A tiny tussle played out, Marisa tugging on her earmuff and Miko doing her best to fight the witch off. Eventually, however, Miko was successful, pushing Marisa away and onto her bum.

“Oof!” Marisa rubbed her aforementioned bum…

Miko shakily readjusted her earmuffs. “...Co-could you kindly refrain from brutally murdering my ears!?”

Marisa pointed at her. “Can ya give us back our crap!? Wait…” She reached into her hat… “What the hell!? I mean our magic crap and our crap crap, then!”

“What makes you think I did it?” Miko snapped back, before taking a breath. “...It wasn’t me. I am afflicted too, you see.”

“Prove it.” Marisa folded her arms.

...Miko unsheathed her sword, and swung it idly. “I’m not sure if I can.”

Reimu suddenly charged towards Miko with her gohei, as if she’d strike her. Miko rose her sword to guard.

Feinting a swing, Reimu dashed away from Miko at the last second.

“...I see.” Miko folded her arms.. “Good thinking, Hakurei.”

Turning to Marisa, Reimu pointed out what was wrong with that combat scene. “She would have teleported if she was really unaffected.”

Marisa made an ‘o’ shape with her mouth. “Yer right. Dang.”

“We must prepare adequately.” Miko decides for the rest of them. “I will accompany you two, for the time being. It would be uncouth if I let this incident brew while you two did something about it.”

Reimu nodded. “Sure.”

Marisa’s jaw dropped. “Wha~!? Since when didja let just anyone tag along with us, ze!?”

“Since we apparently lost all our powers.” Reimu countered. “We really will have to play it safe, from now on.”

...Reaching into her pocket, Reimu pulled out five thousand, five hundred yen.

Miko stared at the amount dryly. “...I take it the Shinto are very financially challenged?”

“Yes, the ‘Shinto’ are.” Reimu concedes.

Marisa pulled out ten thousand, seven hundred yen. “Yo~.”

...They both stared at Miko expectantly.

“...I had not left the temple with funds, today.” Miko sighed. “I apologize.”

“Aren’t you a freaking prince?” Marisa’s expression became dry. “With oodles and oodles of crazy treasure and money and stuff?”

“I hadn’t need for spending in a long time.” Miko counters. “I also had not anticipated today’s hardships.”

Reimu stared at her fancy sword…

“No, I’m not selling Seichi-sei ken, even if it is likely worth an entire castle.” Miko frowned.

Reimu seemed crestfallen. “...Well, I guess we should head to the shops, then.”

Marisa grinned. “Maybe hit up my dad’s place for a few mana potions, huh?”

...yeah that’s a lot to take in isn’t it THAT ENOUGH USER CHOICE FOR YA AL

holy shit that’s like six hundred words of choices

Not every update’s going to blow your ass out with choices, by the way; this is probably as bad as it gets (until they get more skills) and this selection only will appear between jobs.

Basically: they got an AP total which dictates what skills’ll be equipped. E in the box means the skill is equipped.

Vote for either an entire loadout or for specific skills! If things are too messy, I’ll have to pick the most voted for skills as opposed to the most voted for loadout. AP increases by one per level, and you will normally gain five levels per job irregardless of what’s been done.

...Oh, yeah.

OH BOY HERE WE FUCKING GO, GUESS I'LL NEED TWO TABS FOR THIS ONE

SHOP:

[x] 4 Potions: 800 YEN
[x] Hi-Potion: 1000 YEN
[x] 3 Ethers: 1200 YEN
[x] Carry Bag: 100 YEN
[x] AP Up: 10000 YEN - Boosts a party member’s max AP by one.
[x] AP Ring: 2000 YEN - Boosts AP by 2 when equipped.
[x] Alchemist’s Ring: 1000 YEN - Items used by wearer are twice as effective.

TOTAL: 16100 YEN

We don't need elemental resistance that much right now since Futo most likely deals physical damage.

Reimu - 13 AP (+2 from AP Ring, +1 from AP Up) (Potion, Potion, Potion, Ether) (AP Ring, Carry Bag)

[E 0AP] Flight - Allows Reimu to fly like a magical girl.
[E 3AP] Defender - Reimu’s defensive capabilities are enhanced when adjacent to allies.
[E 1AP] Guard - Allows Reimu to block attacks.
[E 2AP] Deep Pockets - Gives Reimu an additional item slot, somehow.
[E 1AP] Item Boost - Items used by Reimu are twice as effective.

[E 1AP] Ofuda Toss - Reimu throws a holy ofuda.
[E 3AP] EXP Boost - Reimu and friends become super smart and gain extra levels per job completed. Equip more to boost effects!

Full-on Tank/Healer build, with EXP/dosh boost on the side. I have a feeling that spending 12000 yen on EXP Boost will be worth it.

Marisa - 10 AP (Hi-Potion, Ether)

[E 0AP] Broom Flight - Allows Marisa to fly with the help of her trusty broom.
[E 2AP] Magic Finale - Every third cast of magic is stronger.
[E 1AP] Lucky Star - Deals random, non-elemental damage in the form of a falling star.
[E 1AP] MP Haste - Mana recovers mana constantly.
[E 1AP] Triple Deck - Marisa gets three spell cards instead of one.
[E 2AP] Treasure Hunter - Additional money on job completion. Equip more to boost effect!
[E 3AP] Narrow Spark - Marisa shoots a narrow, dense laser.

No MP Rage since Marisa should not get hit in the first place. Gotta cheese Magic Finale with Narrow Sparks.

Miko - 12 AP (Potion, Ether) (Alchemist's Ring) (Gives up Defense)

[E 0AP] Flight - Allows Miko to fly like a magical girl.
[E 2AP] Ears of the Shoutoku Prince - 100% resistance to moon elemental magic. Amplified hearing.
[E 1AP] Scan - Miko accurately predicts how much abuse the foe can take before giving up. Equip more for more accurate information.
[E 2AP] Combo Plus - Miko can swing her sword another time in rapid succession.
[E 1AP] Triple Deck - Miko can carry three spell cards instead of one.
[E 3AP] Skukuchi Warp - Teleporting move that lets Miko avoid heavy attacks entirely at the expense of mana.
[E 2AP] Upper Slash - Miko uses a rising slash to knock her opponent skyward. Costs mana, as sword skills do.
[E 1AP] MP Haste - Miko recovers mana constantly.

Giving up Offense would hurt her too much and running two glass cannons isn't that bad once you realize that with a Magic focus she can spam Skukuchi Warp if things get extra rough.

Also, I gotta ask - does Alchemist's Ring and Reimu's Item Boost skill stack for 4x effectiveness?

Yeah, Alchemist's Ring and Item Boost stack.
Futo does mostly do wind/physical magic here, and the former doesn't have a corresponding item right now...

On mobile, this is gonna be hard.

[x] 5 Potion: 1000 YEN - Heals a moderate wound, and helps heal some larger wounds.
[x] 3 Ether: 1200 YEN - Restores some mana.
[x] Carry Bag: 100 YEN - Equippable by Reimu only. Gives an extra item slot.

Switched giving up defence with giving up attack and added MP rage instead of combo plus. My reasoning is that Miko could fill the roll of support/off-tank if Ray-moo is incapacitated, or if the party splits up.
No. 191631
>>191629

My argument for giving up defense is so that we have at least one physical attacker since Reimu is mostly going to be tank/support. I would rather prefer we have 2 glass cannons than Tank/Magic/Magic. And Miko has an evasion skill anyway so she's not completely screwed when attacked.

I really don't think our exact party composition mechanics matter. Regardless of what party we eventually go with, it still falls on the DM(read: Author) to structure encounters such that they aren't unwinnable.

Seconding. Gotta have good Magical/Physical attackers in case we run into resistant enemies, especially if we're limited to items for healing purposes. Can't draw out the fight too much since heals are limited and cost money, you know.

Sadistic tendencies are practically a requirement of being a good DM.

MP Rage and Upper Slash unequipped due to AP constraints.

Basically, I prioritize the skills that received the most votes. Those that receive fewer votes get axed when the AP constraint is considered; additionally, the more expensive skill is prioritized over cheaper skills if it's a tie and the AP limit's still being broken.

Do you guys want to do confirmation posts in the future? I mean, this loadout's pretty much raring and ready to go, but if, after totals are counted, the forged loadout is undesirable, do you want me to hold a vote asking for confirmation? I'll level with ya; this isn't gonna be terribly high octane for the time being (until more leveling up happens anyway).

Stayin' away from number stats outside of AP and elemental resistance by percents, because that's not really reasonably quantifiable and is a bit too much number game. Much more natural to just use connotative language.

tl;dr: I mash all your votes together into a big pile, depending on popularity.

Nice Reimu ability block. Also nice shop block, four pots and a hi-pot instead of five pots.

Confirmation votes are redundant since voting yes twice is retarded. Just stick to the "if there's no problem with this loadout we're going through with this" line.

Stepping out of the shop, Reimu pocketed the last nine hundred yen into her new, cheap carry bag.

“...We’re gettin’ paid if we complete that job, y’know.” Marisa stared at her critically.

“I know.” Reimu sighed. “To think I just spent five thousand yen on trinkets and potions…”

Grinning, Marisa patted her on the back. “Aawh. Now ya know how all the village youkai hunters gotta do it. Not that they usually last long, but still. And ya got that bag for like, dirt cheap!”

“Do not worry, Hakurei.” Miko spoke generously, “I will reimburse you for any inconvenience.”

“With what?” Marisa turned to her. “The funds ya left in your other pair of pants?”

“...Once this is all said and done, anyway.” Miko elaborated. “I intend to see this incident through with you two.”

Idly, Reimu slid on the ring she bought. “...Do any of you know what AP is? It’s called an AP Ring, so...”

“Actual… pretty?” Marisa gave it her best guess. “S’not a very pretty ring, though. It’s, like, just a ring. Probably increases defense or something, like rings usually do.”

Furrowing her brows, Reimu expressed further confusion. “How does a ring increase defense?”

“Actuality Digits.” Miko announced her interpretation. “...At least, that’s what I get from them.”

Marisa gives her a dry look. “Digits starts with a D, dude.”

“It could be another language.” Miko argued. “Or the name of the individual who crafts them.”

Moving through the town’s plaza, they began marching towards the road that lead to the Myouren temple.

“...Ma~ybe.” Marisa nodded unsurely. Looking back towards Reimu, she grinned again. “So, better question: what’s an ‘AP Up’, and why didja eat one?”

Reimu looked defensive. “Hey. It looked like candy, smelled like candy, and was chewy like candy. This AP guy probably makes candy, too.”

Gently, breeze blew down the village path, the rustling of leaves audible in the distance. Wind howled for an awkwardly long period of time only moments later.

“I’m glad you spent twelve thousand yen on AP brand knicknacks.” Miko added.

“I didn’t know it cost ten thousand yen when I ate it.” Reimu huffed.

“Hey, I can sympathize.” Marisa defended Reimu’s decision. “I went ta a restaurant one time, and they gave me the bill after I ate!”

...With that, Reimu chose not to comment further. Miko shook her head, refusing to dignify Marisa’s experience with a response.

“I’m not lyin’.” Marisa insisted. “They really did!”

“We believe you.” Miko threw her a bone.

“...Oh. ‘Cause ya weren’t sayin’ nothin’, and-”

“Shh~...” Reimu shushed her. “Listen.”

...The sound of whirling, howling wind slowly sped up. After a moment, the three spread out to the far ends of the road, sheltering against the incoming projectiles.

Up above, numerous large, multi colored plates soared over the village, some clipping the roofs of nearby houses and shattering, while others broke in the dirt of the road, or against the walls of buildings.

“...It seems she’s still at the temple.” Miko observes.

Marisa snorts. “Looks like the next job’ll be cleanin’ up shattered glass!”

“We should probably hurry.” Reimu takes to the air. “Come on.”

“Is traversing by air the smartest idea?” Miko cautioned the miko.

Turning back to face her, Reimu looked annoyed. “It’s not like these plates are-”

A smaller one shattered against the back of her head. “Eep!”

Marisa’s jaw dropped. “Wha~t!? How’d ya get hit by such a tiny bullet!?

Rubbing the back of her head, Reimu floated to the ground. “I-I didn’t feel it coming! I-...” She trailed off, appearing slightly distraught. “...didn’t focus.”

Marisa blinked. Hovering into the air herself, only for a moment, she appeared focused. “...Wo-woah. Wow.”

“...By foot it is, then.” Miko held her sword tensely, ready to fend against the bombardment of ceramic plates.

========

Eventually, the party reached the front steps that lead to the Myouren temple. The long, expansive front steps loomed ahead, as did the sound of shattering platery.

From behind a tree, the party observed the ceaseless, ceramic onslaught. “Why’s she not usin’ danmaku?” Gazing upon the ceramic-laden stone stairs, Marisa expressed her frustration.

“...Maybe she cannot.” Miko justified her servant’s actions.

“So she sends out a hailstorm of glass.” Reimu remarks. “When everyone else is probably just as powerless as we are.”

Marisa interjected, raising a finger. “We dunno that though. It might be just-”

“It’s everybody.” Miko assured.

“...Ah.” Marisa lowered her finger. “Why’s Monononono got plates for days, ze?”

Miko contributed a response, “I am unsure.”

Marisa nodded. “Yeah, thought so.”

Like this, they watched the plate storm descend upon the stairs for a few moments more.

Eventually, Reimu acted. “Well… it’s time to go up.”

Marisa snorted. “Yeah, okay. So ya can get beaned in the head by more plates. You tryin’a get on the fast track ta takin’ a nap, Reimu?”

Grinning at her friend’s audacity, Reimu counters, “You can stand behind me, if you’d like.”

...Nodding again, Marisa agrees. “Sure. Yer gonna make a good meat shield, ze.”

Miko disagreed. “Hakurei, I feel best if I were to protect us against the oncoming projectiles.”

Reimu paused. “...You use a sword, right?”

Miko nods. “It did not spontaneously become a knife in its sheath, I’m sure.”

“Since when has a sword been good at cutting rocks? Normal swords.” Reimu makes her argument. “Those plates are like rocks, anyway. My gohei would be better at guarding against them.”

“We ain’t gonna have stairs to climb if you two can’t make up yer minds.” Marisa jeers, noticing the piling shards of ceramic on the stairs.

...Taking a deep breath, Reimu runs ahead towards the stairs, her gohei raised.

“Cautionary Barrier!” She declares.

Nothing happens.

Having expect that, she quickly guarded, plates slamming into her gohei and shattering.

“Co-come on!” She shouts for her company. “Let’s move!”

Marisa hugs her broom tightly and stays compact behind Reimu. “Alright!”

Swinging her sword at passing plates, to variable effect, Miko followed. “If this is fine…”

...On the way up, Reimu stopped to guard on multiple steps. Plates continually rebounded and deflected off the wood surface of her gohei, which became gradually more and more beat up with every whirling pass of an oversized ceramic plate.

Miko, having been not directly behind Reimu, was forced to pace herself similarly against the linear tide of plates from above.

“Ha~h… ha~h…” Reimu began breathing heavily, her hands aching and arms pounding from the excessive guarding.

With continued effort, they reached the top of the stairs. Shambling forward, Reimu closed in on the wall adjacent to the temple’s front gate. Covering behind it, she regained her breath…

Marisa whirled up beside her. “Ho~ly crap. I dunno ‘bout you, but somethin’ tells me that Monononono chick’s got like, jugs of mana potions.”

Miko ran from the stair top to the walling adjacent to the gate, opposite from Reimu and Marisa. “I don’t remember Futo having stamina this admirable.”

“Hya~h!”

A girl’s shout was heard on the other side. Peeking their heads around the corner, the four observed Kyouko attempt to assault the taoist.

Futo spun around, the hems of her robes glowing as she held her arms in the air. Plates generated in dull green light above her, raining out directly into the air and being launched for miles.

“St-sto~p!” Kyouko held her broom tightly, running after Futo, but failing to catch up.

Reimu furrowed her brows. “...Where’s everyone else?”

“Byakuren’d be kickin’ some serious ass right now, ze.” Marisa commented. “Looks like she’s takin’ the day off, though…”

Miko stared at Futo, expression blank.

“We should probably do something.” Reimu decided.

Stepping out from cover, Reimu guarded again.

Kyouko turned to her. “A-ah, Reimu…!”

...Futo stopped spinning, plates ceasing to spawn.

After the last few dishes collided with Reimu’s gohei, deflected, Reimu pointed her gohei at Futo. “You!”

Marisa was the next to appear from behind the walling. “Yo!”

...Futo smirked. “Ah, yes. It seemst the Hakurei hath cast herself unto my grasp unwittingly.”

At that, Miko walked out. “Futo.”

There was no reaction from Futo.

“Why are you doing this?” Miko questioned. “Just the other day, you were content. Now… you contain vast hunger. You behave unlike a taoist.”

“It is simple.” Futo held her arms up. “I hath doffed such a mantle. After all why wouldn’t I, after recent events? Thy ignorance hath always left me in contempt, for-”

“You lie.” Miko glared at her. “Your intentions are not those of my servant. Who are you?”

Kyouko bonked Futo on the back of the head. “Geh…”

Marisa giggled. “Ya oughta watch yer back, ze. Bein’ all rowdy like this’s sure to catch ya a lotta enemies.”

...Scowling, Futo whirled to face Kyouko, and swung her arm.

With a great roar, a powerful gust of wind sent Kyouko flying. “Waa~h!”

Kyouko was sent soaring into the side of the temple, where she slammed into it.

“Hey!” Reimu was displeased. “Your fight’s over here!”

Staring at her servant intently, Miko’s eyes ran across her features. “...Her strength is far greater than usual, but proper administration of violence should remedy this conflict.”

“We’re gonna have some fun!” Marisa grinned, adjusting herself on her broom. “Most of my shit’s sealed, but I can probably still shoot ya! In the face, ze!”

Aero!

Blue plates appeared in the air, wind violently ripping as eight plates took Futo’s side. Floating into the air, a sphere of wind protected her from harm.

Futo turned back to the party of girls, eyes narrow and baring her teeth. “There’st no fun in this…”

a lil more on spell cards…

I generally just kinda interpret them how I want, and also somewhat literally. Depends on if I wanna look up their danmaku pattern or not, too, but nine times out of ten it will be danmaku, and bosses are going to be somewhat tanky in the danmaku department for bossy reasons. Their usefulness varies wildly.

Tensely, the three girls stared at Futo. The latter hovered in place, wind menacingly swirling around her form as she glared down at the others.

Slowly, Marisa drifted backwards, distancing herself from the action. “I’ma just be annoyin’ ‘till I figure out what’s up with my boom-in-a-box.”

Miko strafed cautiously. “Hakurei. Be aware, she intends on attacking us.”

...Reimu gave her a dry stare. “You don’t say?”

“Wind! Come!” Twirling repeatedly, Futo began lowering towards the ground.

Bracing herself for further impact, Reimu held her gohei with two arms and pressed towards her.

Whipping her arm around on her final rotation, Futo let loose five of the eight plates that revolved around her. Reimu tensed up, and stood her ground as her party members kept out of range..

Promptly, the plate whirled into her gohei, scraps of wood going flying as the gohei started to bend. “U-uhm…”

After a moment, the momentum on the disc ran out and it succumbed to gravity.

“Ha~h!” Running along the side of Reimu, Miko jumped a foot or two into the air.

An orb of darkness formed above Futo, slowly gravitating downwards until it engulfed her.

“Enh…!?” Futo staggered back onto her feet, her wind shield fading.

Marisa slowly coasted along the edge of the battlefield, banging her Mini-Hakkero with her hand.

“C’mo~n! You worked just the other day!” She huffed. Moments of struggling with it proved futile, so she brought it closer to her face, giving it a closer look. “...Seriously, this sucks, ze.”

...Aiming it at Futo again, she focused. “A little laser!? Anything!?”

Her wish was granted, a thin, rainbow colored laser locking her arm in place as it zipped forward.

Futo was struck in the shoulder, soaring into the air from the impact. “Gua~h!”

Reimu stared up at Futo as she flew gently over her head. Miko beat her to the punch, leaping up after the taoist with her sword.

Making sure to use her flat, Miko swung wide. “Ha~h!”

Futo regained her composure as Miko neared. “Aero!”

“Guh…” Miko’s blow failed to connect, the sudden reformation of the wind shield launching her back.

Marisa was still coasting on the edge of the battlefield. “...Let’s see~... can I still do this?

Compressing herself, she held her broom tightly… and nothing happened. “...This incident sucks!”

Desperately, she raised her arm into the air, and tried to cast something simpler.

Above her, a shallow, yellow star formed. Casting her arm forward, the yellow star spun slowly towards Futo.

Noticing it coming, Futo turned to it fully, and glared. “Naught but a knave’s spell!”

A plate formed in her hand. Reeling her arm back, she tossed it towards Marisa’s goofy star like a frisbee.

They both collided in the air, and shattered.

With her attention fully on the ranged mage, she was wide open for Miko to try again. Two slaps of the blade’s broadside met her spine, forcing her to flinch violently in the air. “Wh-whah!?”

Reimu got close to Miko, stepping between her and Futo with her relatively sad gohei. “Hey!”

Futo was amused. “...If thou’st beckoning for my attention, thou had best exert greater effort. Nothing less may suffice to fluster one of my-”

“I can find your plates in junk shops.” Reimu states plainly. “Your hat is tall, and your robe doesn’t fit. You are reminiscent of a small animal.”

Almost as if snapping from a trance, Futo jittered. “...My plates cannot be derived from peasant’s garbage! ‘Ti-’tis incomprehensible!”

Miko tensed up. “...She’s under an influence.”

Reimu nodded in an impatient manner, having already evaluated this.

...Marisa slowly drifted into one of the temple’s pillars while looking closely at her Mini-Hakkero.

“Oompf!” She slowly rebounded off of it. “The hell’d that come from!?”

Slowly, Futo’s face sneered again. “...Thou art most immature, Hakurei! To resort to petty insults… hohoho~!”

Reimu maintained her guarding posture, grinning at Futo’s overreaction.

“And now…!” Futo leered at the party menacingly, distancing herself before anyone could make a move. “I shall traverse over you!”

Beneath her, a large brown plate formed, which she sat upon with her legs crossed. Slowly, it began spinning increasingly fast,

Reimu furrowed her brows at the plate’s size and scale…

“Be careful!” Miko’s eyes were wide, as backpedalled away from the action, and towards the temple.

Reimu glanced at Miko, her cautious words briefly crossing her thoughts…

“Ho~, hohoho!” Futo hyped herself up as her plate slowly got faster and faster.

Grinning, Reimu decided to test a theory of hers. “Cute little Futo looks good enough to eat, sitting on that plate there. I say we dig in, ladies.”

Baffled, Miko blinked at Reimu with an unreadably still expression.

Marisa’s face slowly shifted into a shit-eating grin.

The plate began wobbling. “Wh-what!?” Futo’s shrill voice came from the whirling mass, which continued to wobble until the plate clipped the dirt floor, and propelled it along.

“Wo-woah!” Reimu stumbled back, and pushed her legs against the floor so that she’d fall back as far as possible.

Futo barely missed bumping her with her head.

As the plate rolled on its side, it gradually slowed down. It eventually declined until it simply wobbled around in place like a coin. As it stabilized, Futo began trying to make it float again…

“Gravity!” Miko leapt unnecessarily as she casted her spell.

An orb of darkness was cast over Futo, pushing her plate back into the ground. “Hngh…”

Seeing an opportunity, Reimu reached for her ofuda on reflex. Only midway through did she realize the futility of this action…

Until she drew an ofuda from her sleeve, like she expected.

Reimu paused in confusion, staring at it.

“You have not stopped- Hnh…!” Futo tilted her plate to block the incoming narrow laser Marisa shot at her.

“Now!” Marisa shouted at Reimu.

With that, Reimu tossed her ofuda towards Futo.

It ripped into the wind shield, which glimmered brightly as it began tearing the ofuda apart.

“Aa~h…” Futo hissed as the small remaining portion of the ofuda that did make contact burned her skin.

Stupid wind…’’It wasn’t as effective as Reimu thought it would be.

“Darn it all…” Futo grumbled, trying desperately to keep the plate beneath her in the air.

Floating closer, Marisa drew attention to something she noticed. “I think Futo needs to say spells aloud to do them, ze! At least, for the wind shield thing!”

Reluctantly, Reimu nodded at that. ‘I don’t know if she’s entirely right about that.

“I see…” Miko began getting closer, as well. “What should we do about it, then?”

Marisa took off her shoe. “Stuff things into her mouth to silence he~r!”

Futo’s jaw dropped.

Here goes nothing, then.’ Despite her skepticism, Reimu pressed towards Futo, debating whether or not to grapple her or to simply maintain a cautious distance.

As Marisa closed in on Futo, she went for her mouth with the shoe. She found the wind shield whipping against her skin violently, tearing up her sleeves. “Oi oi, stand still…!”

“Back! Back, you filthy… thief!” Futo shrunk back on her plate as Marisa leaped off of her broom to climb onto it, trying to make her eat her shoe.

Miko came up from behind, and tried to grab Futo, finding less difficulty with the wind than Marisa did.

“N-no!” Futo objected, kicking against the two, struggling to divide her attention. “Yo-you…!”

“Open wi~de!” Marisa mirthfully beamed, trying to grab her jaw to keep it open…

“Third Sign!” Futo began glowing… “Roaring Wind of Gensokyo!”

Reaching a hand out, she grabbed a staff fragment in the air.

Marisa was forced to step back, lest a plate magically form in her gut. “He-hey! Damn it!”

Plates generated to both directions of the handle, forming two thick stacks that seemed to all be concretely attached. They formed multiple feet outward…

Reimu’s eyes widened as the plates kept forming, the staff being half the length of the Myouren Temple’s courtyard, in the end.

Hraa~h!” Futo broke from Miko’s grasp, and began twirling the insane staff, which actually seemed to bend violently as the wind tried to keep up with the quick spinning motion Futo tried to make it do.

Reimu’s eyes were wide as the beam of plates clonked her.

“Wah!?” Reimu soared back through the air, flying across the courtyard from the strike. The knockback was moreso from the wind.

“Oh, shit…!” Marisa hopped on her broom, and tried to escape, only for one swipe of the plate stick to take her broom out from under her, sending her gliding to the floor on the intense wind. “Woaa~h!”

Miko was trapped in the ground zero of the twirling plates. One revolution smacked her twice, the first strike dead-on. “Guh…”

Miko’s attempts to fight the momentum only served to trap her. The second strike juggled her, sending her into the air…”Ah!”

... but not enough to avert a third hit. “Fwa~h!?”

This time, the violent wind sent Miko flying, her sword twirling in the air beside her.

Reimu’s sandals skidded in the dirt as she touched down. Staring at the flying party members, she couldn’t help but chuckle. “This… was sudden.”

Distract and heal. Also, holy shit this did not get votes for some time.

Oh, hey! Someone actually voted! I thought this was sleepin' with the fishes, for like... awhile! I mean, if one vote a month is going to be the trend, I don't exactly know what I'll do with this thing. It might die cold and alone.

I take it that I'm doing something wrong, here. Aside from the oh-god-why levels of choices, was there anything else blatantly cringy or terrible here? Was it just hopelessly mediocre? I kinda got a lotta questions, but I basically just would appreciate some feedback- y'know figure out why it died/will die cold and alone. I'd also like to know if I'm just overreacting and this is some kind of normal thing, for some stories once in awhile...?

It's not dead yet, though. I don't think, anyway. Maybe on death row, but not dead.

I just, uh, forgot to vote. For a month. Yeah, no feedback here, sorry.

I stopped voting after the write-in I spent so much time on was casually dismissed. I don't have any real constructive criticism, I'm just salty as fuck.

Luminous has that issue as well. It's the difficult vote curse, mixed with the effects on morale and how even write-ins don't do much.

If I had to say, it feels like an unwinnable boss fight, which is frustrating for the few people willing to make the oddly stressful jump that is voting on a story. I'm not one of your readers, mind you, but from the skimming I did, it gave that feel.

And I totally forgot to vote too. Damn, I thought this was waiting for an update...
