Seriously. Why now?
You want to bury your face in your hands with the magnitude of a small meteor strike for how unruly your girls can be. Seriously, can't they just get along for, like, a second? Having to deal with this shit repeatedly is not fun. Eirin's betrayal, Mima's side-switching, and now this? Damn them all to Makai.
But on the other hand, it can't really be helped. This is Gensokyo; land where women and young girls are the dominant species. Catfights are a common occurrence around here.
"Oh yeah?! How 'bout this!?" Marisa shouts cockily.
"Your spells are as useless as your silly hat, mage!!"
The two of them are still bickering, taunting, and throwing sarcasm around as they engage in a small but destructive duel. Marisa fires some sort of twinkling star with lots of smaller stars trailing behind it, but Rumia dodges it with her superior agility. You watch from the second-story window a bit see their combat ability. After all, it’s a good idea to see your troops in real battle.
As far as you can tell, Marisa is a... "dexterous mage", if you’d have to classify her. She's not your typical “I-stand-still-and-cast-fireball” mage you all too often see hiding behind the frontline, but rather seen in the frontline casting quick-chant spells and caving in people's skulls with her broom. More like a battle-mage, really. She can certainly hold her own against an agile enemy like Rumia without showing any sign of disadvantage. As for Rumia, she’s a melee powerhouse, and her ability to manipulate darkness disorients her enemy and lets her close the gap to take full advantage of it. She packs a punch, and is quick enough to dodge all the spellspam Marisa is throwing at her.
But however how fun it is to look at them fighting each other to the death, you don't actually want one of them to die. They’re both too valuable to you, for their own different reasons. Seeing Rumia swoop down on Marisa again, you move in to intervene. Timing yourself perfectly, you position yourself between Marisa and the charging Rumia. You plunge your hand into the blob of darkness she uses to cover her advance, and grab. Rumia is caught by her face in your iron grip as you forcefully pull her out and throw her with all your might into the forest, causing a trail of destruction along the path. Marisa, standing there wide-eyed, eventually realizes what's going on and calls your name with joy.
"Wolf! You came for me!"
"Shush." you reply cooly. "I'll deal with this. You stay put." And you follow Rumia into the forest with haste.
Some distance away, surrounded by the quiet darkness of the trees, you look around for your jealous queen. You don’t need to search for long, because your queen suddenly runs out of the trees at you in a furious rage. You ready yourself to block her incoming attack, but instead of a killing blow, Rumia just comes at you with tears in her eyes, pummeling you weakly with tiny hands.
"Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!" Her voice trembles. "Stupidstupidstupid! Why did you SAVE her?! You chose her over me, didn’t you? DIDN’T YOU?!"
"Rumia, listen—“
"I won't listen! I won't! I am superior to her in every way! Why did you choose her?!"
Her reaction sets you aback. It's a side of Rumia you've never seen before. Before, she was a champion of darkness capable of slaughtering a hundred men in the blink of an eye. Cold steel mentality. Strong and willful. A mature woman with a noble aura. And now she's acting like just a jealous little teenaged girl... Two images clash in your mind, and you’re astonished with the difference.
Females are such mysterious creatures.
Alas, your inner thoughts are being interrupted by your dark queen who keep pummeling you non-stop. You grab her arm, and she use the other free one to put a fist into your solar plexus.
Ow fuck. That hurts.
You grab both her arms, and to prevent additional damage—also known as a kick to the groin—you forcefully push her down onto the dark forest ground. Rumia glares at you, teary-eyed. Strange... When you look at her like this, it sort of triggers your inner sadist self… No, wait; that’s for later. Bugger. Get your head out of your pants, Wolfie. Priorities.
"Rumia… My dear Rumia…" You try to use softer approach. "Calm down and listen to me. For once?"
"No."
Seriously? Sigh.
"Why don't you just punish me for insubordination already and go pamper your new girl over there?" the pouting Rumia adds.
You really don't know what to say in this situation. You vaguely know what her problem might be, and if you’re right then you’ll need to talk it out with her somehow. Silly little romantic feelings aside, she is rather useful to you. However, it's not like you have to stay committed to every mistress you have. Romance is overrated. Jealousy is a bother. If she's smart enough, she should at least realize that you are doing all this because it's part of the plan. Still, unless you’re going to actually be true to your words, there's no guarantee Rumia won’t go all-out berserk and attempt to kill someone crucial to the plan again.
Hm....
[ ] Commit. "You were always my number one, Rumia... And you always will be."
[ ] Scold. "You do know that I get angry when someone disobeys me, right…?"
[ ] Resign. "I’ll start giving more of my time for you, so smile now, okay…?"
[ ] Write-in, etc. Sweet-talk yourself out of this, Anon.
