I need to write more. So by god, I'm gonna try. Hopefully this goes... passably well.

No need to take it especially seriously.

-------

You wake up, and the first thing you notice is the girl you're holding at gunpoint. The second thing you notice is the wings. The third is that she's trying to talk around the barrel in her mouth.

You blink the sleep out of your eyes and pull the trigger as you yawn. Level 2, since you'd rather not leave a mess.

When was the last time you actually slept?

Her head vanishes with a muted crack, which you expected. The rest of her shattering like a hologram... not so much.

You sit up and snatch at a mote of red light, more out of whimsy than intent - it vanishes on contact with your skin, transmuting into an alien sensation.

Alright, gonna go ahead and call it for a combined WHAT THE HELL IS A FOREST OF REIMU? vote, and inform you lot that I'll be taking a two day sabbatical to try and get some work (that I've been putting off in favor of this) done.

Job applications, woohoo. Also, a Book Cover that's going to cover the cost of my fucking rent, which I really should have been doing more work on if I'm being perfectly honest.

WHY DO I SHY AWAY FROM THE SHIT I'M GETTING PAID FOR, I DON'T UNDERSTAND ART

HEY YOU FUCKSTICKS, WE REALLY NEED A FUCKING REISEN ROUTE.

Oh, what? You like Reisen, too? WELL WHY DON'T YOU FUCKING VOTE FOR HER YOU GOD DAMN BONOBOS OF AN AUDIENCE?

YEAH, I'M TALKING TO YOU. You have one job in this here story. I expect you to fucking do it. Now, go and vote for the right choice, faggots. No, don't give me that smug fucking look. Don't you fucking dare. Yeah, you suck your bottom lip right back in and get back to reading, YOU DUMB INGRATES.

Reisen ducks underneath the table, dodging your prodding glances. She keeps herself still but makes no attempt to hide her quickly reddening cheeks. The rabbit's ears wilt considerably, drooping low enough to brush against her disheveled, purple hair. Her usual shirt-and-tie attire is missing, replaced by a short cut kimono. A fake satin flower rests over the side of her ears – her human ears. “Is...” she whispers, “is it all true? They weren't lying to me?”

“Now, why would they lie about that?” You murmur gently, coaxing Reisen out from underneath the furniture. The place is messy; a full two years of absence would do that, though. A thin line of dust coated everything but the mirrors, which, for obvious reasons, remain impeccable. You put your mind away from the thought of cleansing the place – it would be absolutely impossible. “Would I be here if they lied to you?”

Reisen lowers her head, resting against the frame of the table. She opens her mouth, but the words that come out are inaudible. The girl realizes this and repeats herself, just a little more loudly. “Yes,” she says. “Yes, you would. Unfortunately, that is precisely the person you are.”

“I do not know how to respond to that.”

Kurumi? Too mainstream! We need some Kikuri, Sigma, bakebake, and maybe Rengeteki!

Heck, throw in the batty mirror, ghostly blob and shrine tank route choices for giggles.

Or go all-out with a Satsuki Rin never ending story of our progress with her being unwritten/edited every update in an update after the update! But you accept their votes they made before the edits, leading to fun! Such as asking a girl that doesn't know you to marry her.

Long ago, two races ruled over the Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS.

One day, war broke out between the races.

After a one-sided battle, the monsters were swiftly defeated.

Deeming them too dangerous to remain, they sealed the monsters with a magic spell.

[] Name the fallen human.

Y'know, it's probably unwise to start now, what with only having the first area all planned out, but, well... I can't help myself. I've been planning this thing for months, albeit slowly, so it's time I just put... fingers to, uhh... to keys and start.

That sounded better in my head.

Anywho, the first update is short, what with the whole, y'know, name thing.

Nope. Just adorably terrifying.

I find spiders adorable, so... yeah. Sexy, sexy legs.

But in all seriousness, just try searching for good standard Hourai_doll pictures on Danbooru. Seriously, there just plain aren't any. It's all cutesy, simple stuff. If I'm one picture in and can't find a single suitable Hourai picture, that's gonna suck for me. So, now you get pictures of cetipedes instead.

Two years have I lurked and four have I written. I believe the time has come, and with it, my inaugural launch in... technically charted waters. Sink or swim, I will see just how I've grown as an author. Either way, I hope this silly little idea amuses all of you as much as it amused myself~ Although, if I were told I was going to be writing this as my first CYOA, I'd have given the speaker an odd look.

Criticism is not only accepted, but encouraged! If anyone has anything negative to say, I hope you say it to my face as opposed to squirreling away your opinions~

I mean, to be frank, such things would hardly sustain one through the winter.

I recommend nuts for that.

-ooo-

You awaken not amongst the leafy branch of a tree, nor the damp grass below. You awaken instead to silken sheets and fluffy comforter. Where you once bore the bitter cold, hidden from freezing rain, you now found yourself in a home equal parts pleasant and disconcerting. Warm and inviting, yet... somehow off. It's not every day that one awakens to sharing a strange bed with one's self, after all.

It's an even rarer occurrence when one awakens to finding themselves in bed with two of such copies.

And that's while ignoring the fact that they each were different. The same and yet disconcertingly dissimilar, as if cut from the same material but with different tools; as if one had lead a life vastly different from the other. The taller one looked to be unkempt and disheveled, while the other looked younger and well groomed. The former had the scent of books to her, which I would consider proper if not for the strong scent of varnish and wood. Of course, the latter had the scent of books as well, but it was hidden beneath that terribly overpowering scent of strawberry.

MY question is this.

Was there any way we could have turned the romantic chocolate miko skull into a full-blown romance with a severed head? Alternatively, was there a way to avoid a bad end by that point?

Technically you did avoid any bad ends up to that point. I just didn't want to write this for months, so I decided to institute a time limit, as I hadn't expected so much screwing around. I expected the story to not near a second thread, for instance. So, as such, you got the popular book's bad end.

As for the severed head, that would only happen if you locked it in as Reimu route from early. ...Gods, that lie sounds so terrible. But anyways, basically, if you had lost more sanity points, and voted for it, you would have. As it stood, she instead saw it as her child, in a sense.

So, no, there was no way to avoid it, but only due to my lacking desire to turn this story into the true form halloween party arc I wrote that lasted a year.

In retrospect, it was a horrible idea to write it from around 15 points of view, one of which having to be retconned since I started my break from my main series.

...I kinda went on a tangent there, huh? Anyways, that should more or less answer your question.

As much as you want to both do something low-stress and not give Lyrica yet another reason to be annoyed with you, that caring part of you would never forgive you if you didn't check in on your most recent party member. "I want to go check up on Rumia first before we do anything." You say, knowing full well that there might be consequences for bringing her up this soon. "Also, Kogs, could you get the egg for me when we leave the room? I don't want to forget it."

"Why are you going to check up on her?" Lyrica asks, pulling back from you and crossing her arms which takes the warmth from you, "She's probably just eating in the kitchen still!"

"Uhm...I'm sure that Zeke is just trying to be a good trainer Lyrica." Lunasa pulls back from you as well and puts her hands on Lyrica's shoulders, "It's probably nothing like that..."

Merlin's expression as she stares at you silently from behind her sister's and crosses her arms suggests that she's annoyed with you.

"Lunasa's right. Rumia's my responsibility, so I need to make sure she's okay too. I don't want to devolve into the type of trainer who'd do things like leave a mon in an underground tunnel, or foist them off onto someone who won't take care of them right." Even though Lunasa's defending you, you know your entire trio is irked with you, and why wouldn't they? That Rumia poses a threat to them type-wise, even if she doesn't mean any harm.

"Alright, fine, whatever. We need to make sure this place is safe enough for you anyway. Since Kogs can protect you, we're going to go check the perimeter fence." Lyrica decides, tossing her hair over her shoulder. Apparently you've made her mad at you.

"...Right." Lunasa agrees, "Please be careful Zeke, and don't push yourself alright..?" She pleads with you, wringing her hands like she simply needs to do something with them.

"I wont, Lunasa, don't worry. Kogs wouldn't let me anyway." You'd hug Lunasa, but

[X] Sweep the vicinity with your drone.

---

You hold the drone, a gray sphere of metal and plastic about twelve centimeters wide. It’s undecorated save for a small red cross stenciled over the rear maintenance hatch. The only weapon this particular one has is a short-ranged electroshock, not immediately lethal against most things worth killing, but still a useful tool for the little space it takes up. It’s also waterproof to 200 meters, which should be good enough to scan the lake.

You find a dry rock to sit on and get to work, taking out your toolkit and opening up the hatch. It’s a simple matter to remove the standard scanning module and slot in some more comprehensive hardware. You have to remove some other parts to make room for it, though, but that shouldn’t be a problem unless the drone bumps into someone that needs emergency first aid.

You seal the hatch and put your tools aside. With that done, you boot the drone up and let it float up to eye level. After some deliberation, you send it on search pattern in the nearby woods. It seems more likely that some denizen of the forest saw something shiny and decided to bring it home.

In the meantime, you’ve got nothing to do but wait and watch the feed on your phone. Nothing interesting shows up as the drone drifts between the trees. Heat signatures indicate some local wildlife of the non-magical sort, but no metallic objects or noteworthy magic whatsoever.

I feel like the chosen can kinda re-sync up later to catch up on the details of the fight, at the moment though getting rearmed is kinda important. Only a matter of time before Char is challenged directly and we can't expect others to fight on our behalf all the time.

Curious to see how regaining weapons might also impact how one crafts spellcards, if at all.

[-b+1-] Ask Rika if she's willing to follow you to the bitter end. This may be the last opportunity for her to back out.
[-b+1-] If she refuses, try to make arrangements for her to escape, but remind her that the base is practically occupied by the enemy. If she insists, let her go her own separate way.
-[-b+1-] Yes.

------------

"…Wait just one moment." You let go of the girl and glance back at Rika. The girl doesn't even see you as she stares at her friend's bloodied face. "I need to ask someone something." Worries of Marisa doing something once your back is turned creep into your head, but she doesn't move an inch once you release her.

Seeing that she doesn't notice you, not that you could ever blame her, you have to clear your throat and speak loudly. "Rika. Look at me." The girls shaking eyes never deviate from Marisa, and you have to raise the volume once more. "Rika. Snap out of it. Look at me. Not Marisa. Me."

"B-b-but… Look at her! She's horrible! What is going on with her! We have to do something. Oh dear, Oh dear oh dear oh dear…"

"Focus, Rika! We can't do anything for her if you have a panic attack." The girl starts to hyperventilate as she keeps on glancing between you and Marisa. "Please, Rika. Be strong. You said no to your sister, didn't you? You stayed up here. Be strong again, please." There's not much you can do, but you try to sidle between her and Marisa, making sure she can't see it. She'll never forget it, but if you can get her to focus…

It takes a minute for the girl to calm down enough to just stare at you instead of letting her eyes dart around to and fro the entire time. The magic is certainly distracting her, but it's not enough to make her mind crack as much as her friend being possessed by… by something. "What… Lucas… What's going on with her? Do you know? Can you help her?"

Hey guys, new writer over here. This here is an idea I've had for quite a while and now that my semester is over, I need something to do with my life.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is said that humans are the sum of their acts.

That is to say, they have no predefined purpose, and are, as such, free to do, to BE what they desire.

Youkai are different.

They are born for a specific purpose, usually revolving around terrorizing humans in some way. Sometimes, it is more precise, such as causing surprise or fear of the unknown.

If a youkai ever stops doing what makes it what it is, it might as well die.

All too often, they do just that.

And of all youkai, the ones most bound to their purpose are tsukumogami, such as I.

It was strange, really.

Other people would dismiss it as a dusty old building, a relic of the past (a really ancient past), the remnants of something that they can’t even figure out. Something which should by all means have been gone by now, washed away in the cruel waves of human advancement and structural instability.

And they would be absolutely right. The very fact that it was a miracle that she was even able to find the damn thing in the middle of the dense forest atop a mountain spoke volumes about how out of style it was, as they say.

But Usami Sumireko knew that there was more to this shrine than meets the eye. Or rather, there was more behind it.

After marveling at how the shrine still retained its ability to function as a building, if a shoddy one – she wouldn’t pay rent for it, even if it was half the price of her college dorm – she walked behind it, and waved her hand at the area she knew existed, even as her sense of sight and touch proved otherwise. If it weren’t for the innate ability she had, she would have been fooled by the existence of nothing else but the dark forest, and accidentally walked right into the huge, impossibly complex array of magical energy, that threatened to either tear her asunder into the depths of reality, or bring her through the barrier the permanent way.

And to think she had destroyed part of it one year ago.

Okay, so maybe it was partly her fault for panicking and almost bringing the equivalent of Armageddon upon Gensokyo, and she had inadvertently caused the incident right after, but honestly, can anyone begrudge her for thinking that some man-eating youkai would eventually overpower and either eat, kill, or rape her? And she can’t be blamed for bringing something she didn’t know even existed, can she?

She was disappointed to know that the answer was a resounding NO from everyone who wasn’t busy enough shooting stuff at her to even answer. At least Mokou understood. Somewhat.

You nod at Marisa. “This is going to be great,” her smile seems to say.

With a swift kick, the door is forced open. A flurry of light follows.

Marisa goes in shooting, unleashing the brightest display of bullets you've ever been a witness to. All the colors of the rainbow are there, shaped into stars and fast-moving rays. It makes you want to stand and stare in awe. But you're following Marisa lead! And she bursts in to the room aggressively, laughing and shouting something about justice and being around to liberate ill-gotten gains. You can't really shoot as many nifty-looking bullets as she can but you can at least follow.

Things inside are hazy. You're sure it's a really nice room. With the fancy red wallpaper with the pattern which is, no doubt, a product of elegant taste. The bullets have scuffed and dented the far end of the room and have basically guaranteed that it'll need an overhaul. You stand next to Marisa, trying to make sense of everything else: a few wooden tables and large, padded chairs are overturned. The sound of whizzing bullets are pretty much all you can hear but you're sure that there's a few confused cries that are coming from somewhere nearby.

“Go right, go right!” Marisa cries out, gleefully, “take no prisoners!”

A rush of excitement coursing through your veins, you do as she asks. Your movements are fast and your body feels light. You vault over an overturned table, by a big shelf stuffed with curios. It's the kind of stuff that would catch your eye under any under circumstance. There's a young girl on the other side of the table. She's holding a silver tray above her head, her slender arms trembling. Wearing black and white clothes and an inappropriately short skirt, it's clear that she's just part of the help. She doesn't even so much look at you. Her lips tremble and tears well up in her eyes. You leave the fairy behind, deciding that complementing her on her nice wings would be a little too inappropriate given the circumstan
