So, after looking at all of the dead stories cluttered on this site, some with very good things going on as they were dropped (that are complained about in the thread two spaces below), I thought of something.

Why don't we revive them?

The procedure I'm thinking of is this:

Step one: Confirm that the story is indeed, dead, preferably by posting a "Author please respond" post on the thread.

Step two: In /blue/ or some other non-story board, start a contest with authors competing to write the next update or some sort of sample related to the story. Readers will vote on who will be the most appropriate replacement author.

Step three: New writefag takes over. This way, even if it is just the same author who bailed out due to shame or something, the story can continue.

Normally this isn't viable on most fan fiction sites, but given this place's imageboard format, having one person sub in for another would be of no problem at all as long as the new tripcode is made known. If the author was anonymous, so much the better.

Summary: Elect new writers to replace dead ones.

It's that time again, THP: tell me a CYOA that you thought it had an excellent idea, but couldn't do it, didn't know how to implement it, or were, simply, hiatus'd.

My vote, to start things up, goes for the "Gensokyo M.D." story:
"A modern-age doctor sets up a clinic in the border of Gensokyo, providing an alternative to (and starting a rivaliry with) the old-fashioned Eientei. The only known clients were the Scarlet Mansion residents. "

The premise and the writing were good but... it didn't even reach its second thread.

And I have voted on every story I've been following ever since. I just wish that I had done so earlier.

Mini translation project:

So I've been waiting for the translation of the last two parts to Koishi's Heart Throbbing Adventure for quite some time, and no one seems to have taken the time to translate it.

Because of that I'm trying to make it easier to translate by cutting out each dialog, and translating what I know (which is not much, I only know a hundred or so words, and little kanji).

If anyone is willing to help out, even if a little in my mini-translation project, it would be very much appreciated.

Oh also, if not many people are able to help, I'd appriciate if if you'd give me advice on how to go about translating this.

If it helps I could just post a few of the runes to get it started.

Despite work not being a friendly environment in which to doodle down notes and ideas, I have scrapped together a few things over the months.

Mainly (I swear I've said this before) what bothered me the most about RiG was, when I started it, it was kind of supposed to be a hybrid of Harvest Moon with Princess Maker, in a CYOA format.

But that didn't happen at first, because I had the CYOA idea, but not the mechanics thought out, so I figured I'd write and put them in later... which is where RiG2 came into play, and that didn't go over too well.

So I've been struggling to find this good mix of a mechanic system that works well in a CYOA format that isn't really an RPG. I know, I know, many people insist "You don't need mechanics in CYOA writing", but to me, they were meant to be a part of RiG from the get-go, I was just a useless, lazy writefag.

So anyway, I think I found a system that MIGHT work. Basically, I'm going to avoid actually giving Reina any actual stats or anything to determine actions, because I found that too hard to try and work out.

The mechanics will all be contained within managing your workers, and even then it'll be pretty simple with them just earning money/doing jobs and earning money, based on their skills and/or traits or whatever.

To handle the flow of time (which was a problem I struggled with for a while) I'm thinking of breaking RiG down into "Tasks", which span a certain number of days (Maybe a week or two, or something?) and then your job during said Tasks is to balance out Reina's social life, with actually trying to do her job (which would probably consist of finding materials to do some kind of restoration, or something), then at the end of the Task, I'd just timeskip to another relevant time or something. Iffy on this bit still.

Another thing I'm tinkering with is at the start of RiGv3 (I guess it'd be v3 now?) would be to let you all pick some kind of traits/talents, something. Basically little things to tweak the "playstyle" of Reina around (Maybe make her have workers earn more money, or w

Harvest Moon was one of the inspirations for RiG, I will admit.

I can only write, so art is going to be an issue, but I guess for RiG, it may not really need it...

Could throw together something in RPGmaker if you're good at it.
Something along the lines of Embric of Wulfhammer's Castle is an example of fun stuff you could pull off.
>> No. 10834
A possibility, but to make anything besides, well, actually an RPG, would require a lot of figuring out how RGSS scripting works.

It is a program called RPGMaker after all. It wasn't really set up to handle a more slice-of-life type thing.

I realize it's a week late compared to last year, but 17 days is still enough to get something nice written.

Rules same as the last thread, located >>8410

For those who thought about it last year and had partially done ideas, those ideas are perfectly valid this year.
