You mean mostly Rumia, as basically yet another thing with Flan got fouled up no thanks to you folks. And whatever time with Flan was damage control and the next moment might be 3-5 updates away. I'd much appreciate if you didn't lie about this. And it's hard not to react when a bunch of Grue lovers are acting smug about the whole horrible aftermath.

Honestly, if that write went differently, things would be going better and Taisa would still be writing.

I'm sorry, but what? You honestly believe "everybody sits down and talks, and all of our problems just magically go away" isn't cliche?

That's the ending of virtually every episode of every single family sitcom in the 90's. Ever.

Yet, suddenly forcing a mentally-unstable vampire with instagib powers together with the sociopathic killing machine who tried to murder the guy she likes and nearly cost her the one chance she's had at an actual life somehow not turning out all skittles and rainbows is somehow the most cliche thing to have had happen?

You seriously believe this.

What gets me the most is the fact that it clearly could have ended far worse than it did. No one died, and there was no permanent damage done to anyone or anything. The only thing that happened was that you found out that problem you're trying to fix requires more time and effort than what you thought you could get away with putting in.

Yet, because you didn't get the perfect outcome where everything you wanted happened, and all your problems get resolved in a relatively quick and painless manner, it's somehow the second coming of "[x] Call out to Tewi", and Taisa and the "Grue lovers" are squarely to blame, rather than your own inability to properly understand the situation at hand.

>>you do not put out a fire by throwing gasoline on it.

If you didn't want there to be a fire, you should not have been trying to combine that oil-soaked rag with that box of matches in the first place.

As much as I enjoyed GH and would love to see it continue, if it means we're still going to have to put up with the "us versus them" mentality on display here, perhaps it's for the best if it does not.

Not if we're still going to treat the choice between two interesting and likable characters as if they were opposing political parties, and regarding any preference or vote for anyone other than your personal pick as a heinous act of sabotage in an attempt to ruin everything for everyone else.

They aren't. They might not want to go in the same direction you do, but they want to have an enjoyable time and see a happy ending as much as you do. They just don't agree with you on how to get there.

It's how he did choices in general; one or the other, no neutral ground. Earlier in the story there was the chronic habit of somehow missing the reading club due to going for something else half the time and as a result things with Flan got a bit strained and Cirno ended up pissed at us because of it. Or how about all the time we missed with Flan due to all the training stuff CERTAIN people insisted on and how they seem to take up 12+ hours?

I doubt the tendency is incidental as there was close votes all times. And in romance heavy stories such as this and HLA2, it does come down to sides as there isn't much plot outside of "which girl to go after". You don't see this coming up in Fragment of Memories or Gensou Coil (sure there's a bit of contention romance wise, but it's very civil) and the reason for that is that they have a greater plot than just the romancin'.

And I think the whole "courtesy not to shitstorm" is why HLA2 found peace before it went on Hiatus.

>>2534
True on many counts, if folks just went with the flow in the first place, well there wouldn't have been as much crap as there was. At least I had that common courtesy when I started reading GH.

>>2539
People talk about it due to the fact at the time, practically the whole fucking site got in on GH due to how dead the site was besides that after the move. And with the cliffhanger things were left on, people can't help but to talk about it, especially in light of the incident.

Taisa has to learn how to deal with what he made. He loved shitstorms and sought out to get them. He succeeded beyond his wildest dreams.

On the topic of having them become friends, we must get Cirno to help as she's the other common link between the two. The tricky part is that is getting on her good side, thus finding a way to attend the reading club on a consistent basis. BUT before we even start thinking about that, we have to get through the shower with patchy, whatever the party is, and hopefully we can finish patching things up with Flan.

>>The roots being the highly divisive nature and people's inability to accept how the story was going before they started reading.

That "highly-divisive nature" and "inability to accept the way the story is going" things? You're doing those right now. Right there.

You are blaming people for voting how they want to vote in a story based upon people voting for what they want. Just because they weren't reading from the very beginning, or simply don't want to go the direction you want to go doesn't mean they shouldn't have a voice in what direction to take in going forward.

For better or worse, majorities can, and do, change. If you don't like how it's changing, you're not going to help either the situation or your case by essentially stamping your feet and blaming the other side for ruining everything because they aren't falling in line with what you want.

You say divisiveness is a problem, yet you contribute to that situation by insisting on framing yourself as being on one "side" while the people you disagree with are on the other.
That needs to stop, and you are not helping that process along when you are contributing to the problem.

Stop thinking of them as "you folks" or fans of so-and-so, and treating them as if all they want is to ruin everything for you. Contrary to what you insist on believing, they do not. Not if they actually enjoy the story. They may not agree with you on how to proceed in it, but there is nothing wrong with that.

If you think you should go one way, but they think they should go another, TALK TO THEM ABOUT IT. And I do mean talk, not arguing, not throwing a tantrum and claiming they're just trying to ruin everything, and not making demands that the writer not let them choose what they want from the choices presented to them.
Talk to them calmly and rationally. If you think they are going the wrong way, then try to convince them of that.

But, and this is crucial, you need to recognize that this is a two-way street. Just as you make your case, you must allow them to make theirs. If you are to try to convince them, you must allow them to try to convince you. More than that, you must allow yourself to be convinced. If you want people to change their minds, you must also be open to the possibility of changing your own.

You are never going to make people stop stubbornly refusing to agree with you, while you stubbornly refuse to agree with them. It just does not work that way.
You want the problems to stop, this is how you go about it. Not by trying to shut out anyone who disagrees, nor by trying to browbeat them into falling in line with what you think is best.

If they were that reasonable, they'd have gone with the flow as opposed to engaging in the most epic display of tide pissing ever seen here. And it was they that fired off the first shot with the battle cry of "PEDO!"

I've spoken with a few reasonable folks from the 'other side' but it's not the reasonable ones making trouble. They also don't go screaming "PEDO" or "FURFAG" to denounce the opposing side.

And the logic of various sides as far as I see them?
Rumia- Not much logic as she started out as a creepy villain figure that they latched on to. I see she got some nice character development with time, but it doesn't change at the start she was meant to be a creepy villain figure and that people liking her surprised even Taisa.

Something similar happened in the Alchemist story. Villainous Rumia appears, fans appear out of the woodwork.

Honestly, their tenacity and desperation impresses yet scares me. I mean someone could have a Rumia that's 2.5 times the complete monster Ex Nine's Yukari is and they'd still go for her. Feel free to prove me wrong here.

Sakuya- If it wasn't for Flan being decided upon at the start (and the sacrifice of a chance at Youmu, Keine, etc), then I might have fallen in with Sakuya or Patchouli instead. Honestly, his Sakuya is really good and not so typical.

Patchouli- See above; though she needs to be less Miss Exposition/Training sessions that take up most of the day and more showing her quirks. These days, there's a Patchy route in "The Eldest Scarlet" with a really nice and not so typical Patchouli. It makes me wonder about why some folks continue to insist on pursuing her in this other than spite.

And for my logic behind supporting Flan? In addition of the natural flow, Jin and Flan seem to get along real well as many things are new to the both of them. There's signs of something more to her than just a cute girl. Also there's the fact in choosing her, many other possibilities were sacrificed. More importantly, Taisa's Flandre felt 'right' to pursue; if going after her was truly pedo-ish as the naysayers claimed, I'd be among the first people to speak up.

I feel the last two points are why folks who vote for her fight back so fiercely; because if they give up or lose, their sacrifices would be in vain and that Flandre will be "little sister only" for all time. I cannot speak for others, but each time Youmu was seen alone or Keine being depressed, it hurt. My only solace was the conviction that going forward with the Flan route would be worth it.

If I were to do as the unreasonable ones would in regards to Border House, I'd go for anything Kurumi related no matter how badly it messes up the story and chances with Kana. But I don't because I know better than to disrupt how a story is going.

>>2557
Let's get to the heart of the topic: Assurances that a proper attempt at having Flandre and Rumia befriend each other won't have any more nasty surprises. Also the matter of a choice structure that aren't basically "This girl", "That Girl", etc. And the matter of a routelock in the future. You never did say anything after everyone shared their reasons in your /gensokyo/ thread and I'm curious which side posed the better argument to you.
No. 2563
I think if these "rivals" were pursued earlier in the story, there might not have been so much of an issue as it'd be considered more normal and less an outright attack that jumping in the middle of the story and doing so.

The flow of GH was basically 99.9% Flan with a few bumps before the move (Which amounts to 33-50% of the story thus far) and afterwards, far more chaotic.

>Rumia bullshit
It's been a while since I read GH, but I remember only one person speaking out for Rumia before she started living with Jin. After that, she fought hard for her little sister status and quickly gained supporters. Supporters that, judging from earlier in this thread, want nothing more than a little sister, got it? We aren't threatening your precious Flandre route.
>>2563
Hahaha what? Okay, I suppose we are threatening your Flandre route. You want the story to be focused 100% on her. Fuck that. Go play a VN.

I like how you added "non-EoSD" to that.
Hm, that's a tough question. My view on the other characters shifts up and down randomly a whole lot depending on this and that, but recently Reisen has climbed quite high on my list.
It's a shame I barely gave her any personality at all back when I wrote GH... I ought to remedy this somehow.

>>2561
You're going to hate me for answering this, but... Clannad. No joke.
Well, that and SDMLA. To elaborate, I found this site through a friend linking me to the archive of SDMLA on Sentrygun, and I started GH anonymously as a non-serious attempt of getting a feel for what writing is like. I had intended to drop it within the first thread and either start a REAL story with a trip, or to vanish.
It kind of mutated out of control beyond my wildest expectations, and I ended up sticking with it as well as getting a trip as suggested by a friend.

>>2562
I do agree that the choice structure got awfully binary towards the end, there... What can I say? I probably wasn't feeling awfully creative when I made those choices. That is, of course, not a good excuse at all. I'm sorry. I've never tried to claim that the whole divisiveness issue was anything other than my own fault alone.
I still don't quite like the idea of a routelock. It feels like some sort of mental marriage-in-advance... I've never liked foregone conclusions. Unless the entire thematic of the story is a foregone conclusion, e.g. a flashback or something...
Oops, I'm rambling off-topic there. Suffice it to say, when/if I ever continue writing, I'll try to come up with better choices. Well, either that or beg my readers for awesome write-ins.
I liked the ones back when the protagonist was trying to figure out the limits of his mental powers. Those were nifty write-ins.

>>2568
I really want to. I do. Honestly.
...I guess I really don't have a good reason or excuse, though. I just open a blank text document, sit and stare at it for a few hours, then close it as blank as it was when I started.
I can't tell what it is. Maybe cocking up my story so badly scared the 'write' out of me. I hope it'll come back, eventually... Or maybe, part of it is a crippling paranoia that I've outlived my fifteen minutes of fame, my moment is gone, and anything I'd try to write from now on would be bland and uninteresting. Don't get me wrong, I'm not addicted to popularity and fame or anything, it's just that I'd rather not disappoint your expectations.
I've never considered myself much of a stellar or noteworthy writer. I'm a non-native English speaker with a cartoonishly limited vocabulary, and I lack any previous writing experience.
I suppose part of me just thinks people originally liked GH only because it reminded them of GA:SD. Or maybe I'm just paranoid.
Or maybe I forgot to take my meds and it's making me rant and rave about my personal issues. Anyway, enough about that, sorry.

...ahem. Well. Now I've gone and turned an innocent imagedump thread into some sort of attention whoring Q&A thread for myself.
Oops.

Sorry about that.

Jesus christ.
You sure lack confidence. Your day must be a mix of paranoia, unease and self blame. Get a grip man, no one blames you, no one will think you suck, no one will tell you to fuck off.

After all that shit there are many many people who eager await your return and WANT to read what you write.
If that is not enough encouragment for you then i don't know what else is.

All the GH problems can be fixed, not easily but still to a certain degree, with you banging your hand on the table and telling everyone whats in order. You are the writer of the story, tell everyone that you don't want such things in your story. Then a routelock is in order. Either by vote or by your decisions. Remember that you can't make everyone happy, the side who loses has tough luck and should try again next time. If someone is not happy with it he or she can leave and if some people decide to riot there is always the ban hammer. If anon can't do it alone you need to get everything into order with a strong grip because in the long run the story will only benefit from it.

You probably want to have a story about going around having a good time interacting with touhous and not my girl > your girl. But people wish to be like that so you need to adapt to the situation too. Act now or it will always be something you will regret and will linger in your mind. Just think what would Demetrious do.

strangely arousing.

We all seem to forget that, apart from being cute, they all are not human. They are monsters who see humans as prey. That is why it would be a special route to have Rumia accept some guy as an equal and have her love him. This is why i liked GH so much, it felt like an accomplishment instead of just getting things given. The world is a bit less nice, maybe a bit more realistic apart from other stories.

I am not sure what the other routes would have been because, obviously, we never got the chance to discover characters like Shiki, who might be pretty pissed, or Keine. Due to SDM choices it might have been a bit more dark. Flandre was an interesting choice, but she is sadly overshadowed by Remilia.

A bit more dark, in the latter half, sure.

In hindsight, I probably should've avoided having people able to pursue both Rumia and the general SDM group at the same time. EoSD doesn't really work as well as a group here as I thought it would; Rumia is more of an independent type. I now worry that this divisive path that we settled on would not end up doing her justice.

Unless I decide to settle on some sort of arbitrary routelock and she 'wins'. But I'm not sure how the best way would be to routelock the story at its current stage.

To be honest, I wanted to just stay dead (at least in THP), but I feel that I must rise from my grave and encourage you to write, Taisa.

First, there is absolutely no reason to lack confidence in your writing skills. You were by far the best writer here. I read many CYOAs, but dropped them all after the first thread because they were boring. Your CYOA was the only one that truly got me hooked. I felt like a 5 year old kid waiting for that daily update.

I’ll be honest: Restorer in Gensokyo, the second CYOA that got me hooked, was only a means to pass time while I was waiting for your updates.
Sorry, Kriss, but I didn’t read 33% of your updates.

Even though you are not a native speaker and have “no previous writing experience”, you write excellently. I have recently passed my C1 German and English exams and I still feel inferior to you. I’ll never be able to write like you do. I can’t replicate your vividness, your careful balance between fandom and canon, the quirks you gave characters, the premise and how the whole GH worked.

I don’t care which route we take, I just want you to write again.

Second, if any of my few readers are reading this post… I want to apologize for my inactivity and my… well, AWOL. The main reasons for my departure were health problems, but there were different reasons for my late comeback (if this counts as a comeback at all).

Unlike Taisa, who doesn’t crave fame and praise, I did. Since many posts were just zombie votes without discussion, I felt like “just another average writer” and that was quite the opposite of what I wanted. I wanted to be a troll writer or someone as incredible as Taisa.
So one day, when I was about to finish the (extra large) party update, I was like, fuck this shit, nobody will ever notice it… and deleted it. Then, I emptied the bin. I regret nothing.

The update will never be finished. Please, go ahead and change the status of my CYOA to “abandoned”, I hate to see that dead piece of written shit to be called “stalled”.

Undead Turtle, over and out.

Back then? Something boring and unsatisfying, since I didn't even give her anything resembling a personality. If it happened now though... Well, I've started liking Reisen more, recently, and have a better idea of how I want 'my' Reisen to be, so make of that what you will.

...Ouch, man.
Well.
Don't know what else to say, so... Take care, alright?

I'll...
See what I can do, in the meanwhile...

Yeah, I recall you saying how little you thought of Reisen. I'm sure that the actual outcome wouldn't have been anything like the events with the others; my guess is that we would sit next to her, introduce ourselves, and then she could be the bland friend that we primarily talk to because she was the first person we talked to at all.

However, regardless of what happened, it would have meant that we wouldn't have first been introduced to Remilia and Flandre. So who knows, maybe it would've upset the balance. Or maybe anon would just drift towards the two anyways and/or Rumia. Or maybe you'd start to like the "bland girl" yourself and give her more character.

In before you stare at a blank word document for a while before giving up.

You could try posting this heartfelt confession in your thread instead of a hijacked /blue/ thread. It's even already bumped for you.

Well, I -have- been working on a little something on the side as of late, to try and get back into the groove...

I can't really talk about it, though. At least, not yet.
It's complicated.

Don't want to hype it? I can understand that. God knows there's enough hype around you writing again already.

Close enough? I didn't want to post this one as others had already spammed it on other boards.
