All the boards are heading towards a slow, stagnant death

Anon isn't participating and because of that Writefags don't feel motivated to write.

Do you agree this is a true statement? Y/N in this thread

No. 14
yeah sure
No. 16
Look at Taisa. Daily updates. Daily participation. Three updates in a thread because the rest is anon ragin', discussing, or just plain votes and write-ins.

N. It is not Anon that has failed the writefag, it is the writefag that has failed anon.

How often has Taisa begged for criticism in his last couple of threads? If he has to ask then he is clearly not happy with the participation.

We have too many writefags who have IRL problems.

Frankly, we don't give a flying fuck. We all do.
Be it school, RELATIONSHITS, crappy internets, and so forth.

Stop BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWing about it.
You fucking write. And if you can't, don't piss and moan about X,Y,and Z reasons.
No. 23
I'd like to think not seeing as I've gained a healthy and occasionally slow voterbase through insane levels of motivation. (To the point where I'll sometimes F5 a page constantly to see if I have enough votes to write.)
No. 24

Participation and criticism are entirely different things.

N: Even if the slow boards get slower, I don't think it means THP's death, so long as we have at least one writer doing daily updates. Sure wish all those guys would take it a little less easy, though.

There are enough people here, just the interest in stories has gone down. I think the trend is going more toward mainstream stories like GH and the one Grue made. This might have something to do with new people coming over but who the fuck knows. It might be worth to try this out with two different stories, one something like GH and another total opposite. I suggest a CYOA research comission to research the impact of different CYOA on people.
Or we put a "HY seal of approval" on CYOA's with a short comment of his.
No. 27
For the most part, yes.

Those who keep stating HY, Taisa, and other 'known' authors keep forgetting that there are at least 15 other writers on this site who don't get even 10% of the votes of the known ones. Inb4 shit sux.

At this rate, ye mite as well make a separate section for them altogether and delete the rest.

<-- Like this?

I don't think so, OP. More of a sea change, than anything. The audience is changing, and what they expect and how they work is naturally changing with them. The writers don't really understand the readers... and until we do, it's going to feel like shit, because *we* feel like shit. We have no idea if we're really doing a good job, or if anyone cares, and that really radiates out to everything here. But on the bright side - if and when we do re-connect, this feeling will probably cease.

So what's the threshold for 'good'? 20 votes per update? 10? 5? How many regular anonymous viewers does THP even have? Surely it's more than the ~20 people who vote on GH (assuming that there's no votespam, which probably isn't true).

Personally, I can deal with a lack of votes. Its a lack of discussion that leaves me out in the cold with no idea how my story is being received.

Taisa wasn't a "known" author until he started writing both decently and regularly. I believe that any (decent) writer on the site could receive the same type of praise and attention, if only they could dedicate themselves to updating every day or two. It's not that every unpopular story sucks, but merely that slow stories are difficult to form any sort of emotional attachment to. People just don't care as much about them, so they don't bother to vote or discuss.
No. 37
>>29
Yes, something like that i had in mind.

>The audience is changing, and what they expect and how they work is naturally changing with them.

This. Like i already said, Anon has changed and the writers need to adept to this change. Why does people like Taisa or Grue get so many votes and discussion? Why do people like Teruyo and others don't? The situation is obvious. The site and the layout has changed, many new ideas has come. But the writing has not, the ideas have not too. A revolution is needed.
No. 38
>>36
It's not just that definitely. Being on /th/ helps as well. I can think of an author or two that updates daily or more frequently on other boards, has an enjoyable story, but is still consigned to relative unpopularity. Face it - some of the response given is truly disproportionate and not necessarily logically so.

Just because it isn't a problem in some boards/stories doesn't mean that it isn't a problem anywhere else. A fire in your neighbor's house is still a fire, even if you don't see it.

The best way to fix this is for writefags to update quickly and constantly. It will take a bit for anon to catch on but it will definitely work.
No. 47
>>29
>The audience is changing, and what they expect and how they work is naturally changing with them.
What, exactly, has changed, and how should writers adapt? Are you just talking about update speed, or are you saying it's a matter of story content (i.e. setting and pacing) or quality?

Be specific and give examples, because I really don't see that much correlation between a story's content or quality and the number of votes it gets. Taisa and Grue are good, but Fell (The Game in /th/) and server anon are better (or, at the very least, as good), and neither of them get more than 10 votes per update.

Those who complain that only known writefags get attention completely forget, that you have to get the attention somehow in the first place. And in my experience, the absolutely fastest way of getting attention is to:
1) UPDATE OFTEN.
2) UPDATE ON REGULAR INTERVALS.
3) Maintain a decent, stable, or possibly increasing quality.
And that's about it. Everything else is just worthless claptrap. Sure, if you are an absolutely awesome writer like Ranmilia was, you can gather crowds even if your update velocity is lacking, but for the mortal writers around here, you need to fucking gear up and update at least 4 or 5 times a week. If you don't, don't whine if you don't get enough votes or comments.

Well, it's not like there's a cabal of anonymous persons that meet to decide what stories thrive and what stories die. I know I'll sound like an ass saying this, but perhaps what you consider enjoyable differs from the majority.

Although, I will admit that writing on one of the less populated boards leads to less people reading the story. There's just no way to force every reader to visit all the boards.

This could give Teruyo more readers. Drop his story in a board full of life, might get someone interested.

Easy to malign IRC when you have no idea what so ever what's going on there. Wiseman and his ilk have been torn apart there quite a few times already, you just haven't been there to see it. We have lost a hero to our glorious and noble cause, but does this foreshadow our defeat? No. It is a new beginning. Compared to Doujinstyle the national resources of THP are less than one thirtieth of theirs. Despite this major difference, how is it that we have been able to fight the fight for so long? It is because our goal in this war is a righteous one. It’s been over two months since Holy, consumed by greed took control of our original url. We want our freedom. Never forget the times when Doujinstyle has trampled us! We, THP, have had a long and arduous struggle to achieve freedom for all members of our great board. Our fight is sacred, our cause divine. Our beloved writefag, Hungry Youkai, was sacrificed. Why? The war is at a stalemate. Perhaps many of you have become complacent.

Now, faggotry has polluted our most cherished website. We must send a message, but not one composed of words. We have wasted too much time with words. We need action now. All these recaltritant invaders must be taught a strong lesson for their evil corruption. This is only the beginning of our war. We have been putting more and more preparation into our efforts towards making our forces stronger than ever. Our antagonists have done the same.

Many of your voters and authors have perished valiantly in the face of a contemptible enemy. We must never forget what Doujinstyle and Gaia have done to our people! Our writefag, HY, has shown us these virtues through his own valiant sacrifice. By focusing our anger and sorrow, we are finally in a position where victory is within our grasp, and once again, our most cherished website will flourish. Victory is the greatest tribute we can pay those who sacrifice their lives for us! Rise, our people, Rise! Take your sorrow, and turn it into anger! THP thirsts for the strength of its people! SIEG THP!!!
